{"id":1068,"date":"2014-01-17T09:29:19","date_gmt":"2014-01-17T17:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/haymanquarterly.com\/blogs\/?p=1068"},"modified":"2014-01-17T09:29:19","modified_gmt":"2014-01-17T17:29:19","slug":"my-blogging-is-criminal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/haymanquarterly.com\/blogs\/blog\/2014\/01\/17\/my-blogging-is-criminal\/","title":{"rendered":"My Blogging Is Criminal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am a criminal. \u00a0At least, when it comes to blogging and updating my progress and accomplishments here. \u00a0Perhaps that will change.<\/p>\n<p>Anywho, &#8220;The Devil&#8217;s Railroad&#8221; took a back seat to yet another game. \u00a0I started working on a Charlie Brown platformer game for a Christmas Jam, but it turned out to be a bit too extensive for the time frame. \u00a0So I started working on &#8220;SpaceMyth&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/haymanquarterly.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/SpaceMyth_Snowflake_Logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1070\" alt=\"SpaceMyth Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/haymanquarterly.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/SpaceMyth_Snowflake_Logo.png\" width=\"1021\" height=\"573\" srcset=\"http:\/\/haymanquarterly.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/SpaceMyth_Snowflake_Logo.png 1021w, http:\/\/haymanquarterly.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/SpaceMyth_Snowflake_Logo-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1021px) 100vw, 1021px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;SpaceMyth&#8221; is progressing quite well, but it is a Christmas-based game. \u00a0So when it gets completed, even though it&#8217;s fun to play, it will be out of season until December 2014. \u00a0So, there&#8217;s a nice release date goal. \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0&#8220;SpaceMyth&#8221; is a top-down space shooter in an asteroids-like style. \u00a0Your &#8220;ship&#8221; is a Christmas tree and you must collect tree ornaments to boost your hit points as you fight off enemies that are bent on destroying you. \u00a0The enemies include: \u00a0a &#8220;Cat-ship&#8221; (cat&#8217;s are notorious for messing up Christmas trees), a &#8220;Surge&#8221; (a pulsing ball of electricity &#8211; short-circuits are notorious for messing up the whole holiday, let alone just the tree), and, of course, the &#8220;Grinch-ship&#8221; (do I need to explain this one?). \u00a0Each enemy is unique with it&#8217;s own weapons, AI, and graphical effects.<\/p>\n<p>I decided to experiment with this one a bit by trying to export it to HTML5 and host it here on HayMan Quarterly. \u00a0Although I have succeeded with the set up, the game falls short because I can&#8217;t get the color blending to work. \u00a0I don&#8217;t even know if it&#8217;s possible. \u00a0Oh the joys of being a self-taught hobbyist. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>The game is still a work-in-progress, but if you&#8217;d like a sneak peek, here&#8217;s a screenie:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"SpaceMyth Screenshot\" alt=\"SpaceMyth Screenshot\" src=\"https:\/\/dl.dropboxusercontent.com\/u\/46956737\/SpaceMyth_Screenie_001.png\" width=\"1048\" height=\"621\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a criminal. \u00a0At least, when it comes to blogging and updating my progress and accomplishments here. \u00a0Perhaps that will change.
