My Blurb.... BLURB!

Well, this time, it's been a year and three quarters since my last update. During that time, I managed to change jobs, change towns, change vehicles, change computer operating systems, change phones; I changed my hair, changed my clothes, and changed a few lightbulbs as well. In case there are some who can't see the trend here, I've been undergoing many changes in my life. No worries... I didn't change my name or anything drastic like that.

So here's What's New in the World of HayManMarc now:

Wow, what the heck? Can someone tell me what's going on? What day is it? Dude, where's my car?

Since I've got time, and the In-Law's are so outstandingly great, I've decided to take this time off and finally get my GED. This will definately help with future employment possibilities, if needed. Please wish me luck... this will be my third or fourth attempt at taking the course. I've never failed, I just haven't stayed and completed the course yet.

I've also had some time to do some computerin' and get some updates done around here. So, enough about what I did and what I'm gonna do. Check out what's goin' on here with this new issue of HayMan Quarterly! It's amazingly awesome, fantasticly crazy-cool and outrageously beyond the mortal realm of mere existence! It's gonna tickle yer innerds!

HayMan Quarterly is now brought to you by Linux/Ubuntu!

My MicroSoft (MS) Windows-based computer crashed on me for the last time. I've made the plunge and switched to Linux. I chose the Ubuntu operating system. The best part?... IT'S COMPLETELY FREE!!!

I made ubuntu my choice kinda quickly, but I think I made the right choice. Ubuntu is better than MS Windows in a lot of ways, mainly speed. Applications load faster, it feels like I don't even need an anti-virus program, and I practically have all the applications and extras that MS Windows can offer, comparatively. It's almost embarrassing that I've been using a product that costs money.

There is one slight drawback-- I can't run any newer MS Windows-based programs or games on my Linux system. However, I installed a program called WINE that tries to mimic the MS Windows OS (while still being Linux) and it works pretty good for many MS Windows programs and some MS Windows games. WINE remains under development and will only get better with time (pun unintended, but nice nonetheless). Unfortunately so far, Game Maker isn't working so well, but I haven't given it much uptime yet.

Linux Juicebox

I strongly recommend everyone to try Ubuntu. Especially if you've got an old computer in the closet that just kinda quit on ya one day because it didn't want to boot up MS Windows anymore. Just format the hard drive really good to get the MS Windows stink out of your computer, and insert the Ubuntu CD you make for yourself straight from the Ubuntu Website. Really, it's that easy.

Ubuntu is very well documented, so go over to their site and read about what it is, and how it works. You can't lose... everything is free! Yes, meaning 'doesn't cost money!'

Big Steve and the Trainwreck

Hoodoo Eyes

The blues band, 'Big Steve and the Trainwreck', released a self-produced CD over the summer of 2009. I'll be hosting a page featuring the band, including news, CD info, gig info, booking info, pictures, and links. Please have a look! If you don't already know, this is a shameless self-promotion, as I'm one of the members in the band.

INFO

CD's are available now! Be sure to check it out at the
'Big Steve and the Trainwreck'
page here at HMQ for more details!

So... What else is new?

I re-conditioned this website again, if you hadn't noticed. (Take a look at the archives and you'll see what I'm talking about. That's right, the Archives! I got those working too!) I was browsing thru a bunch of free CSS templates and I found this one, or I should say, what used to be this one. I modified it to my liking and it barely looks like the original now. It should make updating this place even easier, as long as I leave the dumb thing alone. Knowing me, I'll probably feel the need to change it again.

I had to start a new page counter. The little counter at the bottom of this page counts how many visits HayMan Quarterly gets. It's a running total. I had one when I started this back in 2002, but they must've cancelled my free account when my website account went delinquent and was suspended. I remember I had just under 1000 visits, I think, last time I saw it. So I started the count on my new counter at 950. Not too shabby for a freelancer webmaster, eh?

Have I created a Sci-Fi page yet? Comments or suggestions about possible content is appreciated. Send me a line. Or sign-in and post a message in the HayMan Forums.

Hay, man! Is that Freedom Rock?

Freedom Rock Album Cover

Well, turn it up, man! I think this is one of my favorite commercials of all time.

I was googling around for something else when I stumbled upon this. Robert of the Radish, a blogger for Yahoo Music, wrote a small article about this that sums it up rather well. He even made a list of the songs that were on the compilation album. Click his name to see and read this article.

Crazy, huh? They were still selling vinyl LP's back in the late 80's. You could get this compilation as a 4 LP set. Far out, man!
